Amazon Climate Friendly Certification Explained

Definition

In 2019, Amazon and Global Optimism co-founded the Climate Commitment, pledging to reach the Paris Agreement 10 years ahead of schedule and to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040. Now, 312 organisations have signed up to the Climate Commitment.

In 2020, Amazon officially launches Climate Pledge Friendly, a new initiative to help end buyers easily discover and purchase more sustainable products, with plans to eliminate carbon emissions wherever possible and offset any remaining carbon emissions to achieve its goal of sustainable product improvements. Simply put: reducing carbon emissions, or minimising your carbon footprint, reduces the amount of greenhouse gases that are warming the planet.

When a buyer searching for an Amazon product sees this Climate Friendly Commitment label, it indicates that the product has one or more of 37 (as of 2022) different sustainability certifications, and earning the label also means more traffic support and exposure, enhancing the buyer’s propensity to buy.

How to apply?

There are 37 environmental certifications currently recognised by Amazon. After obtaining one or more of these certifications, you can also apply for the Climate Friendly Commitment label. After the third party sustainability certification has been placed, sellers do not need to change any product data or upload information. The third party agency will update the seller’s Climate Friendly Commitment products to Amazon, which will then license the label.
