What are differences between FCC certification and UL certification?

1.What is FCC certification?
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent agency of the Federal government of the United States. It was established in 1934 by an act of the Congress of the United States, and is led by the Congress. The vast majority of radio application products, communication products and digital products need to be certified by the FCC to enter the US market. FCC certification  is mandatory.
2.What is UL certification?
UL is the abbreviation of Underwriter Laboratories Inc. The UL Safety Laboratory is an authoritative institution in the United States and a larger private institution engaged in safety testing and identification in the world. It is an independent, for-profit professional organization that conducts experiments for public safety.UL certification  is a non-mandatory certification in the United States, mainly testing and certification of product safety performance, and its certification scope does not include the EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) characteristics of products.

3.What are differences between FCC certification and UL certification?
(1)Regulatory requirements: FCC certification is obviously mandatory as a regulatory certification for wireless products  in the United States; however, UL certification, which ranges from the whole product to the small parts of the product, will involve this safety certification.

(2)Test scope: FCC certification is a test of electromagnetic compatibility, but UL test is a test of safety regulations.

(3)Requirements for factories: FCC certification does not require factory audits, nor does it require any annual inspection; but UL is different, it not only requires factory audits but also annual inspections.

(4) Issuing agency: The issuing agency certified by FCC is TCB. As long as the certification agency has the authorization of TCB, it can issue the certificate. But for UL, because it is an American insurance company, UL can only issue the certificate.

(5)Certification cycle: UL involves factory inspection and other aspects. Therefore, relatively speaking, the cycle of FCC certification is shorter and the cost is relatively much less.
